4. Configuring NetProxy Services
4.14. Dialling Settings
If you are using NetProxy with
a dial-up modem or ISDN connection to your Internet Service Provider, you can
configure NetProxy to dial your service provider whenever anyone on your
network attempts to connect to a site on the Internet. NetProxy will also drop
the line when nobody is connected to the Internet.
To use NetProxy with a cable modem, ADSL service, or leased-line connection to
the Internet, the "Enable dial on demand" option should normally be
unticked.
The
dial on demand configuration dialog appears below. More information on each
setting is given below the picture and continues on the next page. To display
specific help on each of the settings, click the Windows 'context help' icon at
the top of the dialog box in NetProxy, then select the item you wish to learn
more about.

Enable 'Dial on Demand'
Enables or disables NetProxy's dial on demand capability.
Entry Name
Specifies the name of the Windows dial up networking (DUN) connection name that
NetProxy will dial out to.
User Name
Specifies the log on user name for connecting to your Internet Service
Provider.
Password
Specifies the log on password for connecting to your Internet Service
Provider.
Advanced Button
Displays the Advanced Dialling Options dialog. This allows a range of dial-up
profiles (a dialup profile consists of a Windows Dial-Up Networking entry name,
an account name and a logon password) to be specified for use at different
times of day or days of the week.
In some countries, ISP's offer discounted or free call rates at certain times
of the day by providing special phone numbers. Using the advanced dialling
options, NetProxy can automatically use the most appropriate Windows Dial-Up
Networking entry at any given time.
Retry Count
Specifies the number of times NetProxy will attempt to dial your Internet
Service Provider before reporting a "connection failed"
message.
Retry Pause
Specifies the length of time, in seconds, that NetProxy will wait between
successive dial attempts.
Inactivity Timeout
Specifies the length of time, in seconds, for which NetProxy must remain idle
before closing the dial up connection to your ISP.
Minimum Connect Time
Specifies the minimum length of time, in seconds, that must elapse before
NetProxy will drop a dial up connection. Useful in situations where a minimum
call charge, or a call setup charge, makes it economic to stay connected for a
minimum period.
