2. Quick Start
Guide
Here are some quick
instructions and references for setting up NetProxy. If you run into
difficulties, please consult the relevant sections of this help file for
further information.
- If NetProxy is to connect to
the Internet using Windows dial-up networking (DUN), as is the case with most
modem or ISDN connections, then start the Windows Control Panel application,
and display the properties for "Internet". Select the
"Connection" tab and click the "Connect to the Internet using a
local area network" option. This ensures that dial-on-demand access is
fully controlled by NetProxy, rather than by Windows.
- Start NPConfig (which will
have been installed on the Start|Programs menu in Windows) and select the
"System Service" option from the configure menu. This will ensure
NetProxy starts up automatically each time the PC is rebooted
- Click the toolbox icon in
NPConfig (
) to
display the NetProxy configuration wizard and fill in as much information as possible. Then
click OK to auto-configure NetProxy. This will create a secure
setup, using DHCP to assign IP addresses in the range 192.168.0.2 to
192.168.0.254 for the machines on your network.
NetProxy includes a
complete "What's This?" help system. For information about any
NetProxy setting, simply click the "What's this?" icon in the
title-bar of any dialog box, then click on the item you need help with.
